As part of the Life Sciences Entrepreneurship Development Program, Dr. Renaldo Battista participated in the day organized by IRICoR on November 13 on the theme of oncology. The objective of this module was to highlight emerging trends in the development of oncology drugs, in particular to foster the entrepreneur’s mindset to the distinctiveness of this sector.
On this occasion, Dr. Battista reviewed “the success story” of the creation of the Oncopole and its unique model resulting from a partnership of co-creation of the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) made possible by an initial $15M investment from Merck Canada. He thus delivered 3 key messages to the students of the program on which the success and relevance of Oncopole rests, namely: the importance of the power to establish public-private partnerships; to create synergies in research and to bring together research, innovation and the health and social services system.
The numerous achievements accomplished by Oncopole during its 4 years of existence around 3 axes (research; entrepreneurship and valorization of innovation; integration of innovation and clinical relevance) testify to the dynamism and the unifying nature of the pole which strongly contributed to its success. Dr. Battista concluded by underlining the clear and ambitious goal for the future of the Oncopole: to create real value and benefits for patients and the economy of Quebec.
