Oncopole attended Laurie Hendren’s symposium on “patient-in-the-loop” data, held on August 28 at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC). Patient-in-the-loop” data are healthcare data that are shared in real-time with the patient (or their informal caregivers) just as they are with the professional members of the patient’s care team. They promote patient empowerment, transparency, and shared decision making. During the symposium, the advantages and disadvantages of the patient-in-the-loop data model were discussed, as well as the obstacles and facilitators to its implementation in Quebec. The event featured an engaging set of key presentations by international experts on patient access to healthcare data, and panel discussions with patient partners and healthcare experts focused on value, digital health and data sharing in healthcare.
